Windmeul Eggs and Pick ‘n Pay achieve a world record for the largest omelette!
On 9 October 2009, Windmeul Eggs and Pick ’n Pay joined forces at the V& A Waterfront in Cape Town to cook up an extraordinary 3.625 tonne omelette. It took 65 000 Windmeul Free Range Eggs to gain a Guinness Book World Record for South Africa at that time. FoodBank Cape Town went on to distribute the giant omelette to non profit nutrition programmes in 12 regions of the Cape Peninsula. FoodBank Cape Town routinely distributes food through 480 agencies to feed almost 12 500 people in need of hunger relief. The event showcased a collaborative effort between a food producer, a major retailer and the non-government sector to address one of South Africa’s greatest ongoing challenges – hunger and food insecurity.
