Free Range Eggs
Windmeul’s Free Range Eggs are produced by hens which enjoy the 5 Freedoms as laid out by the international guidelines of Compassion in World Farming. In 1991, Mrs Louise van der Merwe of Animal Voice and Compassion in World Farming introduced the concept of Free Range hens in South Africa. Windmeul Eggs became a keen advocate of Free Range, and Mrs van der Merwe has often visited our facilities, which are independently audited. Our Free Range hens have under-roof housing as well as access to open-air runs and we fully support their 5 freedoms:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst
- Freedom from discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease
- Freedom to express normal behaviour
- Freedom of fear and distress
Worldwide, consumers are increasingly aware of the impact of their buying choices on animal welfare, health and safety and environmental sustainability. Windmeul Eggs is pleased to support the increasing number of South African consumers who choose Free Range.
